What is Covered California?
Covered California is an online health care marketplace where you can sign up for health care coverage online, by phone, by mail, or in person. This online marketplace is a website where you can “shop” by choosing a health care plan and compare various plans’ prices and benefits. Each health care plan must cover essential health benefits, such as doctor visits, hospitalization, emergency care, maternity leave, pediatric care for children, and prescriptions. Through the Covered California application process, you can find out if you’re eligible to get federal tax credits to reduce your health care costs, or if you’re eligible for free or low-cost health care coverage through Medi-Cal (see PG. 466 for more information on Medi-Cal).[1529]
