Do other forms of tribal income impact my eligibility for SSI?

Maybe. Whether or not a source of tribal income is excluded depends on the type of payment. Only specific types of payments and resources are excluded from income.[3408] As discussed above, per capita payments from certain settlements may be excluded from income, and cash, stock, or land from an Alaska native corporation are also excluded.[3409] However, per capita payments from a tribe's commercial enterprises are not excluded. For example, if you are a member of a tribe, payments from your Tribe for distribution of Indian gaming profits do not qualify for income exclusion. These payments must be counted towards your annual income for SSI purposes. If you are uncertain you should contact your tribe who will be able to give you an answer as to the status of your payment. Additionally, if you are incarcerated and know you will be receiving payments of any type, make arrangements with your tribe to have them held, delivered to a reliable payee, or direct deposited in an existing account.
